Ranking da revista americana Rolling Stone marca os 50 anos do álbum de estreia do Ramones, frequentemente apontado como um marco fundador do Punk moderno, e revisita clássicos e obras influentes do gênero, reunindo álbuns históricos do gênero, obras consideradas precursoras do movimento e lançamentos mais recentes ligados ao Hardcore, Pós-Punk e Pop Punk. 

Segundo a publicação, o Punk surgiu em meados da década de 1970 em Nova York, impulsionado pela estética crua e direta dos Ramones. A seleção também inclui artistas considerados Proto-Punk, como The Stooges, New York Dolls e Patti Smith, apontados pela revista como influências fundamentais para o movimento.
